Don't Let Artwork Glitches Hold Up the Job

10 Tips For CD and DVD Screen Printing

Silk Screen printing is the standard method for decorating replicated CD and DVD discs. Here are 10 tips to help your job go smoothly and look its best:
  1. Use our templates. Designs which are incorrectly sized can be difficult to correct.
  2. Be sure your artwork is of high enough resolution (300 dpi minimum).
  3. Avoid using Photoshop® for text, Vector Illustrator text or text laid in Quark works the best.
  4. Keep your designs simple. Complex designs are possible, but simple designs usually work better with screen printing.
  5. Text should be no smaller than 6 pt. Reversed text should be at least 8 point.
  6. Use full value PMS colors whenever possible. Our press can print 5 colors. One color is often used for the white flood background.
  7. Avoid light screens under 30% of the full PMS value. Very light screens will tend to disappear.
  8. CMYK printing works fine with screen printing, but small or very fine text looks best at 100% black.
  9. Consider using the silver color of the disc to show through in your design. Dramatic results can be achieved by using this technique.
  10. Contact your Sales Representative or our Art Department with questions about your silk screen designs. We are happy to work with you or your artist during the design stage to make sure your project is production-ready. For more information on submitting artwork to Action Duplication, click here.
