CD Production Tips

A good master is one of the most critical elements in the creation of high quality copies. It is always better to provide us with a master that represents the way you want the copies to appear.

The ideal CD master is a single session disc, closed after writing, using the ISO9660 Level 1 standard.

You may use other standards such as Macintosh HFS, HFS/ISO hybrid or ISO9660 Levels 2 or 3. However, these discs should also be single session, closed discs.

The following types of discs are unacceptable for replication:

  • Discs recorded using the UDF format.
  • Discs with open sessions.
  • Audio discs recorded track-at-once.

Roxio (formerly Adaptec), the maker of Easy CD Creator and Toast, has some helpful information on their site about the following topics:

Track-at-once and disc-at-once.
Filename compatibility with different operating systems.
Problems with open sessions and how to correct them.

If you have any questions about your master and whether it is acceptable for replication, please contact us.

Do not send us the only copy of your material. You should always retain the original material for safekeeping.

Remember, a good master and good communication help ensure high quality copies.
